Here is what we have been up to in 2019!
USA, Kona, Hawaii – Feb 6 to March 7 Darv and Carol were on staff for the final phase of the Master’s degree program in Whole Person Health and Development with 10 international Students. After the MA students presented their research papers, the University of the Nations conferred their well-earned MA degrees with an excellent program of each candidate’s educational background and their ministry.
KOREA, Jeju March 9-16 Darv taught in the Addictive Behavior Counseling School (ABCS) led by Hyungsuk (Mango) Kim. Darv taught on Understanding Addictions, The Tree of Addiction and Addiction Recovery.
Background: Darv and Carol mentored Jungwoo Cheon and Fuana Tmarsel as leaders of the first Korean ABCS in Korea in Nov 2002 as a bilingual school. Since then the ABCS has continued in Jeju, Korea every 2 years, but only in the Korean language.
ISRAEL & JORDAN MAR 30-APR 24 Darv and Carol toured Israel with Rabbi/Pastor Gene Binder from Cornerstone Church in Boulder, CO and Hanna Ben-Haim as our Israeli guide. This was a time to tour, explore, and relax.
BRAZIL, Curitiba May 4-16 Darv taught for a week on Understanding Addictions which covers the historical definition of Alcoholism by King Soloman 3000 years ago and the Tree Of Addictions. He showed brain scans of damage done by addictions. Carol taught on God’s Design for Maturity.
USA, Salem, Oregon May 17-26 Carol taught in Foundations Counseling Ministry (FCM) on God’s Design for Maturity spanning from pre-birth and infancy to child, adult and elder stages. Darv taught briefly on an overview of addictions.
USA, Hyannis, MA Sep 5-7 Darv was invited by Michael Dinneen to attend a Cape Cod Symposium on Addictive Disorders (CCSAD). Mike helped lead a workshop named Recovery Connections- Stages of Nurturing for an Integrated Journey.
PORTUGAL, Lisbon Oct 5-24 Darv and Carol taught in a new FCM counseling school with leaders Gustavo Lima & Sandra Beuren. While in the Lisbon area we were invited by Tom Bremer, Director of Teen Challenge Europe and the new President of International Substance Abuse and Addiction Coalition (ISAAC) to share on the historical Definition of Alcoholism and the Tree Of Addictions. Many of his international Teen Challenge leaders were present.
INDIA, Manipur Nov 7-21 Darv and Michael Dinneen, a social worker and leader of Valient Living, (a Minnesota Model addiction rehab program in Denver) traveled to teach together in Mayola Ngamchiyo’s rehab program started in Ukhrul, Manipur. Mayola was treating 8 women with heroin addiction. All the addicts went through detox followed by a 3-month program using daily process group therapy to obtain healing from childhood trauma. After the rehab the women will attend aftercare to continue their healing and prevent relapse.
Darv and Mike took a 3-hour drive to Imphal, the capitol city, to visit and teach in a men’s rehab program started by Ashang Kasar. Michael taught on understanding addictions and recovery. Darv helped start daily process groups for trauma recovery. With a program of 25 heroin addicts, Ashang needed more help to teach and lead this rehab. Fortunately, they will soon have more staff in January, 2020.
NEPAL, Kathmandu Nov 22-Dec 6 Darv attended the International Substance Abuse & Addiction Coalition (ISAAC) conference held at the Park Village Hotel from Nov 25-28. Darv taught on the Historical Definition of Alcoholism and the Tree of Addiction. About 80 people attended this conference with about half from Nepal. Darv also taught in 2 churches and 2 faith-based rehab programs – Salvation Nepal and Vision Rehabilitation Centre. In the Vision program they used the book 12 Steps for Christians to provide a deep working through the 12 steps of healing.
